Making a Scene

Four women pose in a drama class scene
October 17 @ 10:00 am - November 21 @ 12:00 pm

$195.00

Theatre is a place of discovery, discussion, empathy and understanding and while thoughts and direction are limitless, it all begins with the words on the page—what the playwright wants to communicate. This class will instill confidence and experience through the preparation and presentation of short scenes from selected plays.

A six-week rehearsal process for actors to work together to mount a 5 to 8 minute two- or three-character scene with other actors

Two-hour sessions consisting of work on the scenes including:

  • Discussion of the characters and intensions for each scene
  • Rehearsal, memorization and performance in class of the chosen pieces.
  • A focus on character nuances and choices that make the scenes more meaningful and interesting.
  • An analysis of the play and the characters to be presented, for example:
    • Who are the characters?
    • Why is this scene important?
    • What do the characters want?
    • How are the characters different when the scene is done?
  • Class participants’ thoughts and ideas about the scenes and characters chosen.

Scenes will be chosen and assigned by the facilitator. And while directed rehearsals will take place during class time, participants will also work outside of class to memorize and prepare for upcoming sessions.
