SUMMARY:Making a Scene
DESCRIPTION:Theatre is a place of discovery\, discussion\, empathy and understanding and while thoughts and direction are limitless\, it all begins with the words on the page—what the playwright wants to communicate. This class will instill confidence and experience through the preparation and presentation of short scenes from selected plays. \n\n\n\nA six-week rehearsal process for actors to work together to mount a 5 to 8 minute two- or three-character scene with other actors \n\n\n\nTwo-hour sessions consisting of work on the scenes including: \n\n\n\n\nDiscussion of the characters and intensions for each scene\n\n\n\nRehearsal\, memorization and performance in class of the chosen pieces.\n\n\n\nA focus on character nuances and choices that make the scenes more meaningful and interesting.\n\n\n\nAn analysis of the play and the characters to be presented\, for example:\n\nWho are the characters?\n\n\n\nWhy is this scene important?\n\n\n\nWhat do the characters want?\n\n\n\nHow are the characters different when the scene is done?\n\n\n\n\n\nClass participants’ thoughts and ideas about the scenes and characters chosen.\n\n\n\n\nScenes will be chosen and assigned by the facilitator. And while directed rehearsals will take place during class time\, participants will also work outside of class to memorize and prepare for upcoming sessions.
